Ruth graduated with her BA in Art from the University of California. Post graduate education and experience includes Special Education, Counselling Psychology and Interior Design which have had significant impact and influence on her painting today.
Currently working out of her studio in West Vancouver, Ruth paints with Acrylics, sometimes incorporating various mixed media. “I usually first create an enormous mess with paint and pieces of paper everywhere and then begin to study and feel where the painting wants to go while attempting to conquer the chaos.”
Ruth prefers to paint large in a semi abstract style. Her paintings are colorful and fluid. Most recently inspiration has come from botanicals, mixing youth and age of spring and fall.
“The goal is to achieve a pleasing interaction of color, light and space that also presents some form of planned or unplanned storytelling. The creative process has both sub-conscious and spiritual components and is about working with and leaning into the unplanned and discovering it’s leading.”
